Dylan McCulloughWhat do you bring to the Board (experience, skills and abilities) that make you an effective Fiddleheads Board Director?
My years of experience as an employee of Fiddleheads in several different roles including grocery buyer, front end coordinator and finance clerk mean that I am uniquely suited to the role of director. I also completed a business degree last year (an associate’s in accounting from Three Rivers/CT State Community College), and I am currently working toward a degree in public administration, which covers work in the nonprofit and co-op sector. What does the Co-op mean to you? The co-op has played a pivotal role in my personal development, on both a professional and a personal level. Not only did Fiddleheads help me to choose a career path in accounting and public administration: I also met my beautiful wife when we were both employed at Fiddleheads! Why do you feel called to/compelled to serve on the Fiddleheads Board? I am committed to serving the community that helped me grow as a person, and I believe that my professional and educational backgrounds will prove to be valuable to the future of Fiddleheads. |

Susan ZimmermanFiddleheads Natural Foods Coop is a place I love and have supported since we first opened our doors. I returned to the board this past year after a break. Previously I was a director from 2011-2020 serving as President, Vice President and Treasurer.
I have seen our store grow from a few grocery shelves to the diverse community that we have today. Our store is a place where I can always find my favorite gluten-free products, enjoy a prepared meal, or load up on delicious bulk food. The fresh ground peanut butter is my favorite. The board is doing excellent work on creating a diverse and inclusive place to shop. And I am excited for the opportunities still ahead. Serving on the board of directors is an opportunity to use my background in finance. I have also worked as a lobbyist for children’s mental health. Now retired, I enjoy hiking and traveling |

John ClevelandI have worked at Fiddleheads for a bit over a year in Wellness. I volunteered at Fiddleheads in 2010 prior to moving to Oregon, and since those days I have sought out these natural food stores during my travels and moves both for the different take on organizing a business and the access to local and organic food. The quality was always amazing. The variety of products was always intriguing. And beyond the food, the presence and impact of these establishments on their community was always evident. These co-ops and health food stores have more life and culture than your typical grocery store. When I’m not at the co-op, I’m outside in a garden or in the woods as often as I can be. I enjoy growing food (and eating it!) and foraging and studying herbs and mushrooms, so I’ve felt welcome and seen at Fiddleheads since I’ve returned to Connecticut after more than a decade.
In addition to working full time at Fiddleheads, I feel I have the capacity to run for the staff seat on the board, to represent not only our owners, but our staff of over 40 people that work very hard every day to make Fiddleheads happen. I love my coworkers. We have a great time playing store, learning from each other, witnessing and helping each other grow, telling goofy jokes, sharing interesting information and viewpoints. To me, that’s what co-ops are about - being a melting pot of diversity of thought and action, with a shared vision of a vibrant, thriving community. Fiddleheads embodies that in both our broad range of owners and customers, and our legacy of workers that have supported Fiddleheads for the past 16 years. |
Board Elections
In accordance with the Co-op bylaws, Elections occur annually, in a manner prescribed by the Board (typically each Spring). Directors serve a term of three (3) years and serve staggered terms so that approximately one-third (1/3) of the Board is elected each year.
All Fiddleheads Co-op Owners are eligible to vote in elections and run for the Board. For more information please contact: [email protected]. |
