Community Involvement & Giving
Neighborly Nickel Program
Bringing together our mission to promote sustainability and support local organizations making positive change in our community Fiddleheads brings you our Neighborly Nickel program. Each time you bring a recycled shopping bag, your cashier will hand you a wooden nickel to donate to one of three featured organizations. These community organizations change every three months and focus on organizations in New London county working for social change, environmental protection and resilience, as well as animal welfare and food justice. feed: feeding everyone every day
Fiddleheads is working to alleviate food insecurity in our community. Data from the Connecticut Food Bank shows there are over 30,000 food insecure individuals in New London County, 13% of our population. We’ve created the feed program: donations of everyday food items to make sure people have accessibility to healthy food every day.
Starting November 18th through December 31st 2016 pick up a $5, $10 or $20 feed donation box. At the end of the drive, Fiddleheads will donate products to the Gemma E. Moran Food Center. Each box has a representative donation: this way we can provide products the food center needs at a subsidized donation cost. Gemma E. Moran Food Center works with 81 member emergency food programs in New London County, allowing us to donate to one organization and benefit many. Remember, you can donate any product in our donation box at the front of the store any day of the year.
